About Us

Founded in 1983, the Contact and Consultation Center for Refugees and Migrants in Berlin-Kreuzberg (Kontakt- und Beratungsstelle für Flüchtlinge und MigrantInnen e.V. – KuB) is a registered non-profit association, whose purpose it is to provide support and consultation services for refugees and migrants from all over the world, in matters concerning not only social and residence law, but also psychosocial and other existential questions. We are committed to the notion that all men and women are entitled to a secure residence status as well as equal political, social, and economic opportunities.

Am 22. Juli fand eine Veranstaltung für Frauen in Kooperation mit GLADT e.V. statt. Die Ziele des Treffens waren die Vermittlung von Informationen über die Arbeit von GLADT und eine stärkere Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Vereinen.Wir bedanken uns bei GLADT und hoffen auf gute Zusammenarbeit.

Am 08.07.10 fand in der KuB eine Veranstaltung zum Thema Mumia Abu-Jamal statt. Ein Vertreter vom Berliner Free Mumia Bündnis referierte über die Geschichte von Mumia und ordnete sein Schicksal in den politischen Gesamtkontext von institutionellem Rassismus in den USA ein.

Burma-Veranstaltung, Film und Diskussion

Am 25. Juni fand eine Filmvorführung und anschließende Diskussion in der KuB statt. Der burmesischen Mönch Ashin Sopaka präsentierte den preisgekrönten Dokumentarfilm Burma VJ mit eindrucksvollen Bildern. Er zeigt, wie couragierte Videojournalisten während der Mönchsaufstände 2007 in Burma unter Lebensgefahr mit kleinen Handkameras von der Gewalt auf den Straßen berichten und die Aufnahmen außer Lands schmuggelten.

Am Mittwoch, den 2. Juni 2010, ist unser Vorstand Teki Temaj auf eigenen Wunsch von sämtlichen Ämtern zurückgetreten. Bis zur nächsten Mitgliederversammlung rückt der bisherige Stellvertreter Stephen Sulimma in den Vorstand nach.
   

German and alphabetization classes

The German and alphabetization classes are aimed at refugees and migrants of all ages, but especially for those refugees who cannot attend regular German classes due to financial reasons or to their legal status.
All classes are free of charge.

Emancipatory Theater

Starting in April 2010 until April 2011 the „Foruminitiative Berlin“ will offer a theaterproject for migrants and refugees .

Working Group Undocumented Work

In August a meeting between KuB and the working group 'Undocumented Work' of ver.di, a german trade union, took place. Twice a month this working group offers amongst other things consulting concerning workers' rights regardless of the residence status.  This conjunction of the KuB with the WG Undocumented Work is a genuine basis for professional exchange.
